Garage door owners have to play it safe! New safety regulations as of May 2005.
Injuries caused by garage doors are not usual, but can occur time and again. For this reason, a new European norm (EN 13241-1) has set new safety standards which, as of 1 May 2005, all new garage doors must meet. With these improvements, garage owners and, above all, their children are better protected from possible dangers. The regulations apply to newly installed doors. However, you should consult a specialist to check if your current door also meets the new guidelines.
Aging garage doors are fitted with outdated technology and often hold several risks. For example, these risks are caused by externally routed cables which control the opening and closing of the door or by spaces between the individual door sections on sectional doors. These types of danger zones can result in injuries through jamming, shearing or cutting actions – above all for children. The goal of the new European norm EN 13241-1, effective as of 1 May 2005, is to increase the level of protection from these types of injuries. Among other aspects, the new norm states that garage doors must be equipped with finger jam protection, a side trap protection) and an anti-fall safety device. A cut-out mechanism is also required which will stop the automatic door in the presence of obstacles. In keeping with these safety regulations, Alulux has developed their own solutions and have met all the requirements of the European norm - for a long time already. Whoever wants to be safe and ensure that their older door meets the new regulations, can contact an Alulux specialist dealer or find the closest specialist dealer in the internet under www.alulux.de.
